Building a Brand Studio for Fairbanks
Known as the remote Gateway to the North, Fairbanks has unique challenges when it comes to forward-thinking design. Being a community-driven town, locals prefer to support a plethora of flourishing small businesses vs. larger chains and corporations. I noticed much of the design was outdated, making these important local spots also feel behind and overlooked.
Fortunately, I've had the privilege to work with two of the most creative and talented Alaskans I've ever met. Together we started Fairbanks Brand Studio, a multidisciplinary agency that focuses on modernizing brands and strengthening the community, introducing cutting edge design to a place that needed it.

The result of this teamwork was an adaptable brand studio full of life and a team equipped with the resources and confidence to get to know the amazing people of Fairbanks and push their brands forward.

My Trip to Grandpa's
Role — Art Direction, Logo + Branding, Screen Printing
Client — Iris Sutton
Agency — Fairbanks Brand Studio
Year — 2020
A book collaboration with the paintings from Iris Sutton, featured in May's First Friday show, Daydreams of Spring.

Local painter and Fairbanksan Iris Sutton sure knows how to uplift anyone who encounters her work. Her bright, colorful, and abstract interpretation of Interior Alaskan fauna is truly one of a kind, putting viewers in an almost dream-like state.
We collaborated together to make a long-time dream of hers become a reality: publishing a children’s book. In a signed and numbered limited edition print of 500, we utilized these paintings together in an adventurous, dreamlike Alaskan story titled “My Trip to Grandpa’s.”

Using the look and feel of the book, we developed branded assets including hand printed tees, stickers, and art prints for a fully cohesive show.

All work is owned by Fairbanks Brand Studio and clients.
LOGOTYPE DESIGN

We used hand drawn block letters as the book cover font and filled them in with a bright color palette to reflect Iris Sutton's paintings, setting a playful tone for the brand.
BOOK LAYOUT + DESIGN

Using Iris Sutton's bold signature to spearhead the look and feel, we created dark splotches and swirling lines to integrate each painting into the page.
BRANDED MERCH
In addition to the book launch, we created assets from Iris Sutton's paintings to sell merchandise for the First Friday show.
